Dow sinks over 600 points into the close, S&P 500 closes at lowest level in more than a year

Stocks finished the day in the red, with energy stocks being some of the worst performers and the S&P 500 dipping to its lowest level in 52 weeks.

Welcome back, everyone. We are in market sell off mode as you can see there. The Dow down more than 600 points. We’re going to be taking a deeper dive with Ines Ferre in our sprint to the closing bell. Ines, what can you tell us?

INES FERRE: And Rochelle, some heavy selling is what we’ve seen in this last hour of trading. Right now, we’re looking at the NASDAQ. That is down more than 4%. In fact, over the last three sessions, that would be today, last Friday, and Thursday, the NASDAQ is down more than 10%. The S&P 500 could close below the 4,000 level. That would be its lowest level in more than a year. We’ve seen pressure on oil prices, oil futures lower today, significantly lower for WTI and Brent Crude.

Over on the sector action, we are seeing energy stocks losing the most followed by real estate, consumer discretionary, and technology. On the NASDAQ 100, take a look at the left-hand side of the screen. The heavyweights, Amazon down more than 5% at a 52-week low. Tesla down more than 9%
